Runbirds Baseball
Our Runbirds Travel Baseball Team is New England’s premier baseball development program for players ages 7 and up. Our organization boasts teams at the 9U – 14U levels and College Scout Teams at the 15U – 17U levels. Headed by Coaches Nate Sorensen and Kelly Rooney, there is nothing like Runbirds Baseball.

Meet The Pros:

Kelly Rooney, Baseball Director
A three-year starter for the Nipmuc Regional High School and DVC player of the year in his senior year. Kelley Rooney was awarded to the first team All-Conference two years in a row. He led the team in average, OBP, total bases, and steals. After graduating from Nipmuc in 2011 he walked on to the Umass Lowell Baseball Team his freshmen year. There, he started two years as a second baseman under Ken Harring at Umass Lowell. His senior year he was the leader in on-base percentage along with fielding percentage. Kelly has also played Summer ball in the FCBL (Future Collegiate Baseball League) for the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide where he started as a Shortstop/Second Baseman.

Cam Cossette, Baseball Coach
A graduate of Milford High School class of 2014, Cam was the baseball varsity captain and played on the Milford varsity football team. He is a 2-time American legion State Champion for the Milford legion post 59. Moving on to Plymouth State University to receive a Bachelors of Science in physical education in 2019, Cam played baseball for all four years there, where he pitched 116 innings and 78 strikeouts.

Mike Callahan, Baseball Coach
Mike Callahan served as head baseball coach at WPI for 17 seasons, becoming the program’s all-time winningest coach with 308 victories. He led the Engineers to multiple milestones, including the program’s first NCAA Division III Championship appearance in 2009 and two ECAC titles, with standout seasons earning him NEWMAC Coach of the Year honors in 2016 and 2017.
Under Callahan’s leadership, WPI produced numerous award-winning players, including multiple NEWMAC major award recipients and several All-Americans. A former standout player himself, Callahan captained Franklin Pierce to the Division II College World Series, where he led all hitters with a .591 average. A Worcester native, he continues to give back to the game as a respected umpire across youth and high school levels.
