The Shrewsbury Club Junior Tennis Program’s goal is to promote a love of tennis. We aim to develop a foundation built on technical and tactical skills, while creating a supportive, fun and enjoyable environment. We have programs for ages 3 – 18 and all levels of skill; with a wide range of focus points.
Ball control and consistency
Match play and formulating a game plan
We are, as a group, creating an even better tennis experience here at The Shrewsbury Club. Our clinics will help your child develop self-respect, self-confidence and increased participation in social activities; all while elevating their tennis game.
New! – Competitive and Performance Clinics
At the Shrewsbury Club, our goal is to have multiple pathways for players who want to compete and play at a higher level than the recreational players.
Our Competitive Clinics offer more intense lessons twice a week (mandatory) with an optional round-robin.
Performance Clinics offer even more intensive instruction twice a week, with mandatory match play on Sundays.
Members are able to register for the entire tennis season (39 weeks) by EFT payments. This form of registration requires commitment to the entire season. (September – June) EFT is always the lowest rate! To learn more about EFT payments or to enroll contact, Vik Ramachandra (774) 214-3028 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ages 4 and under Tiny Tennis players will be introduced to tennis. Our Tennis Professionals will help them become comfortable with their junior tennis racquet, the tennis court, tennis balls and will start to familiarize them with the basics of the game.
Ages 4-5 In Lil Tykes Tennis, children wills tart to learn forehand, backhand, and their serve. Our Tennis Professionals will introduce children to volleys and basic court positioning. Games will be played on a junior size tennis court.
In this group, players prepare to transition to the 60′ Orange court. They have demonstrated an understanding of basic ground stroke and serve technique as well as grips and footwork patterns. Players are both physically and mentally prepared to begin work on the situational aspects of the game. Advanced Recreational Red players are introduced to the larger court space, faster ball and concepts of forward and backward movement that come with Orange court play.
Ages 7-10 Beginner Orange focuses on building the athletic skills required by the sport while also teaching the fundamentals necessary to serve, rally and score using a rally/game based curriculum. The coaching is focused on developing sending and receiving skills, sound footwork and racquet mechanics.
Players are fundamentally sound in both movement and technique and are beginning to work on more advanced patterns of play utilizing the larger court space. Dynamic balance, experimentation with various tactics and strategies, and development of, “weapons,” all become a part of the tennis player’s game. Players are encouraged to play Orange Ball tournaments.
Ages 10-12 Beginner Green is designed for beginner levers. It is taught using a rally based curriculum and focuses on developing sending and receiving skills, sound footwork, racquet mechanics and incorporating comparable athletic skills developed in other sports. Players learn how to properly position themselves to execute ground strokes and volleys, hit with purpose, serve and ultimately sustain a rally of varying speed and duration.
Ages 12-14 Intermediate Green builds on the mechanics mastered in Beginner Orange, Intermediate Orange and Beginner Green. Specifically, each player learns to develop areas of strength in their game and learns how to use them to their advantage.
All clinics require a minimum of 3 participants to run. If there is not sufficient enrollment, semi-private lessons or private lessons are available.
